Falling in Love with San Miguel de Allende (Part 2)

by Ben Calderoni

Continuing from where we left off, here are some more reasons why you will fall in love with San Miguel de Allende.

Rooftops of San Miguel

Ever climbed on the roof of your house just to see how the view is? Although this isn’t what you’ll have to do in San Miguel, you will however, have the chance to catch the most beautiful sunset, courtesy of some of San Miguel de Allende’s restaurants and bars that are located on the roof tops. And if that’s not enough, you can also catch a view of the beautiful city from our very own B&B in San Miguel.

Art

The cultural aspect of San Miguel has brought us some of the most beautiful pieces of art in the world. And the reason behind that is because after WWII, soldiers started enrolling in art schools to try their chance at art. And the rest was history.

At present, San Miguel has a very vibrant art community, with working artists and artisans creating beautiful pieces for all to see. In fact, some of the streets are even lined with shops that sell all kinds of crafts for those who want to take a slice of Mexican art back home with them.

Jacaranda Trees

Surprised? If you are then you definitely haven’t seen these trees in their full glory. Naïve to the tropical and subtropical regions of Central America, Mexico, the Caribbean and South America, the lavender colored Jacaranda trees add the perfect touch of color and beauty to the even more colorful surroundings. If you want to see these beautiful trees in full bloom, then make sure to go to San Miguel de Allende between March and April.

Narrow Streets

You can’t even take your motorbike through the narrow streets, alleys and paths without seeming like you have a death wish. San Miguel de Allende is famous for its uneven cobblestone streets, which means walking is your only mode of transportation. Just remember to wear the right shoes, and don’t worry about the distance since the city is so intricately built that you will not even notice how much you’ve walked.

Natural Beauty

Before you get up on the rooftops, understand this; you will not want to come back in. San Miguel de Allende itself may have its fair share of color, but even that pales in comparison to the magnificent sunrises and sunsets that you’ll witness in the Central Mexican city. With the ever-changing colors and lights of the Sierra Madre foothills, you will want to keep watching the dramatic scene forever.
